YOUR  PLEDGE  of   $1.00   a   WEEK   can  PROVIDE   for   these   Agencies   in   2017:

 

 
Boy Scout Troops 34, 68, & 460:  awards for 2 boys for a year; or assistance to send scout through the Order of the Arow Ordeal (a scouts national Honor Society)

Children's Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP) of New River Valley:  food for 2 parent workshops for families in Giles; or a CHIP nurse to conduct 3 home visits to make development assessments for children
 
Community Health Center of the New River Valley, Inc. (Giles Satellite) :  medical, dental and pharmaceutical services to the residents of Giles County who are uninsured or under insured and who otherwise cannot afford access to health care
 
Giles County Christian Service Mission:  a large food box for a hungry family
 
Giles County 4-H Youth Program:  ten (10) 4-H’ers to participate in an educational program to increase their life skills such as forestry or outdoor adventure summer day camps 

Giles County Lifesaving & Rescue Squad, Inc.:  much needed first aid supplies like bandages, tape, oxygen supplies, gauze, glucometer strips, gloves, etc.
 
Giles County Shelter, Inc.:  monthly water bill and other costs associated with maintaining the house for emergency residents
 
Giles Medication Assistance Program:  assistance to patients who do not have prescription coverage by applying directly to the pharmaceutical companies for free medication, now focusing on patients 64 and under with no coverage as well as certain seniors in the “donut hole” phase of their Medicare Plan D coverage

Homeless & Housing Program (HHP):  3-4 low-moderate income families with housing counseling and case management
 
Literacy Volunteers of New River Valley:  instruction materials for adults who function below the fifth grade reading level, for their families and for those seeking to learn English as a second language
 
Med-Ride:  cost of transportation to medical appointments for people who have no other means 

New River Community Action, Inc – Giles Emergency:  approximately 4 days of food for 3 people; 1 night’s lodging for 3 people; 30 days of medication for 12 people
 
New River Integrative Arts Center:  adults and seniors the opportunity to participate in Taiji (Tai Chi) for increasing health, well-being, and resilience at all ages
 
New River Valley CARES:  training for volunteers to advocate for children during court proceedings; Parenting Young Children courses; and Community Education activities around the issues of child abuse and neglect 

New River Valley Community Services:  support to one volunteer for the Raft Crisis Hotline for four months of service; for one child’s visit with a psychiatrist (one session); approximately three months of case management services to a child with mental health, emotional issues, and/or intellectual disabilities 

New River Valley Senior Services, Inc.:  nine (9) meals for homebound people in Giles
 
Newport Rescue Squad:  much needed first aid supplies like bandages, tape, oxygen supplies, gauze, glucometer strips, gloves, etc.

SW Virginia Legal Aid Society:  attorneys and paralegals provide legal assistance to low income families each year, including domestic violence,  custody cases, landlord-tenant disputes, unemployment claims and social security appeals.
 
Women’s Resource Center of the NRV, Inc.:  two (2) hours of counseling for those dealing with domestic and sexual violence issues; or 2 hours of counseling for up to 8 people on the 24-hour Crisis Hotline; or 1 night of emergency shelter or transitional housing shelter.
